Which Table Are You Choosing?
Every day, we are faced with a choice. A choice that is more than just about our actions, but about our allegiance. It’s a choice between two tables—the table of the Lord and the table of devils. One leads to life, fulfillment, and freedom, while the other leads to destruction, addiction, and an unquenchable hunger for things that will never satisfy.
"Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils." – 1 Corinthians 10:21
The Table of Devils: A Deceptive Feast
The table of devils is also filled with regrets, pain, hurts, bitterness, resentment, anger, and baggage from the past. It thrives on keeping us trapped in cycles of guilt and shame, whispering lies that we are too broken to be redeemed. This table invites us to hold onto our wounds instead of giving them to God for healing. The world’s table is filled with things that seem appealing. Success, pleasure, entertainment, self-indulgence—it all looks like a feast, yet it never truly satisfies. It promises happiness but leaves us empty. It offers escape but leads to chains. It gives temporary comfort but breeds deep dissatisfaction.
At this table, we are told that more is never enough. More money, more pleasure, more power, more validation. It’s an endless cycle of seeking without ever arriving. The table of devils invites you to sit down and consume, but all it does is consume you.
Jesus warns us about this table:
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." – 1 John 2:15
At this table, sin is disguised as freedom, yet it binds us in addiction. What starts as an innocent distraction becomes a stronghold. And before we know it, we are no longer guests at this table—we are captives.
The Table of the Lord: A Feast of Life
In contrast, the table of the Lord is one of abundance—not in material wealth, but in spiritual fulfillment. At His table, we are known, loved, and given an identity that the world cannot take away. His table is filled with peace, wisdom, true joy, and the nourishment of His Word.
At God’s table, we are invited not as beggars but as sons. Many times, we as men feel like the only thing we are loved and accepted for is how much we can give and provide. It may even seem at times that we are having to prove ourselves worthy of unconditional love in our life. That is a weighty burden to carry through life. We don’t have to fight for a seat or prove our worth—He has already prepared a place for us. God calls us SON! That is pretty special that the Creator of the universe, our Savior, our Heavenly Father would call us His son. And what's even more exciting is that He has an unconditional love for us that is unmatched.
"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." – Psalm 23:5
His table does not offer empty promises but eternal truth. It is here that our hunger is truly satisfied, our identity is secured, and our souls find rest.
The Choice is Daily
Choosing which table to sit at isn’t just a one-time decision. It’s a daily battle. The world’s table will always call out, always offer distractions, always present something enticing. But every time we choose the table of the Lord, we strengthen our spirit, grow in wisdom, and walk in the truth.
So ask yourself: Which table are you choosing today? Are you drinking from the cup of the Lord, or from the cup of devils? Are you feeding on what will leave you empty or on what will fill you with life?
A Call to Action
